I loved the course. The greens were a little stressed but not so bad that you couldn't putt. The greens were fast! But the course is very interesting and challenging. I would definitely go again.
2. Whispering Pines, Myrtle Beach (drive time: 9 hours)
900 Harrelson Blvd, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577
Across the street from the Myrtle Beach Airport and once an Air Force base, Whispering Pines is adjacent to Myrtle Beach attractions. Pairing this course with a beach trip to Myrtle Beach is a no-brainer. The drive is pretty hefty for a weekend getaway, so we recommend doing this trip if you have a nice 3 or 4-day holiday.

Course is challenging. Greens & fairways are well maintained. Getting out of the ruff can be a 🐻. Goes without saying, best to stay in the fairways. Fair amount of sand traps and water. Par 3's tend to play longer than posted. Although course is not comparable to top courses in Myrtle Beach, for the price, definitely worth playing.
3. Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, Ross Bridge (drive time: 3 hours)
4000 Grand Ave, Birmingham, AL 35226
Next to Birmingham, AL, this golf trip can serve as a big-city getaway (if you venture downtown) or a quiet retreat (if you stay on-site at the Ross Bridge Resort). Ross Bridge Golf Course is part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Alabama, and is considered one of the longest courses in the world!
Helpful Golfer Review:
This course is excellent and probably my second favorite on the trail. The size of this course is wild. It feels huge and has trouble everywhere. The course was in immaculate condition and I love the greens, they were smooth. I highly recommend this course if you are in the area.
4. Clear Creek Golf Club, Bristol (drive time: 4.5 hours)
732 Harleywood Rd, Bristol, VA 24202
Pair this golf course near Nashville, TN, with a trip to Bristol, VA. If you choose your dates correctly, you could hit town during one of the largest music festivals in the area: Rhythm and Roots Reunion every September.

Excellent choice for my Virginia round. Good price and very nice people. Number 8 and 9 were spectacular!
5. The Pete Dye Course, French Lick (drive time: 3.5 hours)
8670 West, IN-56, French Lick, IN 47432

It only has nine holes, and it has no sand traps, but the last time I played it the course was a solid par thirty-six.
7. Riverbend Golf Course, Shelbyville (drive time: 1 hour)
245 Riverbend Rd, Shelbyville, TN 37160
This private country club requires a membership (or a friend with a membership *wink). However, with its stellar ratings and its close proximity to Murfreesboro or Huntsville, you can make this a quick overnight or weekend getaway!

Some of the fastest and trickiest greens in the country. Hidden Gem.
